Fake Bomb causes severe airport disruption

Improvised Explosive Device causes Newark Liberty International Airport disruption TSA photo

On Tuesday, September 4th, part of Newark Liberty International Airport was forced to shut down when a security officer spotted what looked like an explosive device on the X-Ray image, causing severe disruption and closure of several security screening lanes. The airport operations resumed normal service but only after the authorities determined the device to be a mock one and not an actual bomb.

Further investigation revealed that the passenger who caused the panic was travelling to Florida to take part in a training event  focusing  on X-Ray screening and detection of threats, such as explosive devices, which explains why he was carrying the item.

This case is a good reminder for everyone about the importance of keeping security personnel constantly trained, vigilant and ready to detect any of the modern threats.
